Q: What will you never forget about Abby?
A: The first night I spent with Abby, she was just a little fragile puppy. I was home alone watching TV while she wandered upstairs. Shortly after, I could here her whimper— there she was standing on the top step looking down frightened as she was unable to walk down stairs. I took on the task to teach her to walk down the stair case one by one. Shortly before Dave, Sarah and my parents returned home; there she was, walking up and down the stairs. I did not realize how precious this moment was until Abby’s last days. It surely is a moment that made me see how life goes by in the blink of an eye. A cliche, but important lesson to not take the precious moments like teaching a puppy to walk down stairs, for granted.
This loss of dear Abby is very difficult for many. She was an extraordinary being. Abby’s lifetime with Dave and Sarah marks the beginning of their relationship and spanned past her baby brother (human) being born. For me, Abby joined the family at the end of my childhood.
As she grew up, I realized how inspiring her life could be. A helpless animal, my sister and her husband rescued, damaged by some of the worlds most evil people; grew into a confident, humble warrior who would protect her family at all costs. Abby shows us proof that no matter how this world beats us down, and yes it will; we can always hang on to hope for the good of the world to lift us back up.
Rest in peace sweet baby girl. Until we meet again.
